When a Wall Post Is Not Enough

Posted in Personalised Cards at 10:34 am by kingletcards

For a while now, I remember most of my friend’s birthdays from Facebook. I am sure I am not alone. On days when I am extremely busy, I sometimes find myself forgetting to check whose birthday it might be today. The next day, I will take the extra step of check whose birthday it was yesterday.

The other day I was appalled to find that it was my mother-in-law’s birthday I had forgotten the day before. The next step was to view her Wall. Oh my! She received well over three dozen birthday greetings. Even my wife and son had left a Wall Post – and somehow forgotten to mention to me the fact that it was Mum’s/Grandma’s birthday!

A belated Wall Post would never do. I needed to do something better. She was on holiday in a rather remote location – florists were out of the question. There were none within 300 kilometers of her hotel! What could I do. I wracked my brain for a few minutes when the obvious hit me. An eCard!

I spent the next several minutes looking through all of the various birthday options and chose one that best suited the relationship I had with my mother-in-law. It was not an overly strained relationship, but she certainly did not consider me her son either. I did not wish to offend her with an overly humorous mother-in-law eCard. I selected very nice eCard. I added a short message pertaining to her current travels. I suppose I was quite proud of the eCard.

The next day I checked my Facebook account. My mother-in-law had posted on her Wall. “Thanks everyone for the birthday greetings – especially Jonathan who sent me a delightful eCard.”

Guess what? This taught me a valuable lesson. Now when I really want to impress somebody, I send them an eCard on their birthday – or any other occasion for that matter. Sometimes I won’t bother with posting something on their wall. The nice thing about eCards is that they are personal. I can say things that perhaps I would not want to say publicly. And people really appreciate the fact that I went out of my way to send them an eCard. And honestly, it’s not really out of my way.

Worlds Oldest Twins

Posted in Personalised Cards at 11:55 am by kingletcards

Amazing ladies!

The title of the oldest twins in the world has gone to sisters Ena Pugh and Lily Millward.  Happy 100th Birthday x 2!

Farmer’s daughters Ena Pugh and Lily Millward were born in 1910 before the outbreak of World War 1 when Queen Victoria’s son Edward VII was king.

The pair still live in the own houses, still meet up for weekly shopping sessions and chat on the telephone virtually every night.

The twins used to work on the farm with each other.  They claim that life has been good to them, and taht they have been blessed with good health.

Even at 100 years of age, the pair live independendently, and look foward to Birthday Parties!

The family were told the sisters have beaten odds of more than 700 million to one in becoming centenarians together.

The sisters live just a dozen miles away from each other in the fresh air of the Welsh countryside – Ena at Erwood, near Builth Wells, and Lily still in her home village of Garthbrengy, near Brecon.

Halloween!

Posted in Personalised Cards at 3:28 pm by kingletcards

Spooky

Many of us celebrate Halloween – but how many of us know where it originates from?

Halloween was originally a Pagan Holy day called “All Hallows Eve.” It was one of four, and the most powerful, holy days throughout the year when spirits could walk the earth and communicate with the living.

Satanists have adopted Halloween as one of their three main seasonal days of celebration. The others are Wallopings Noach on the 1st May and the Satanist’s birthday.

How do you celebrate Halloween?

A Millionaires Birthday….

Posted in Personalised Cards at 2:47 pm by kingletcards

A millionaire has enraged villagers by throwing a raucous birthday party at his country estate with low-flying aircraft and mock battles.

Neighbours of Charles Burnett III were left distressed as he celebrated his 51st birthday with an extravagant military-themed party involving explosions and gunfire.

Mr Burnett, an American international businessman who often drives a tank around the grounds of his Georgian house, infuriated residents with the all-day war games display.

Events included two acrobatic air displays by a two-seater Harvard fighter which swooped over his home as mock bombs exploded on the ground.

The centre piece of the displays were some of Mr Burnett’s collection of amphibious vehicles and tanks, including a British Chieftain tank, a self-propelled Abbot armoured fighting vehicle, Army jeeps, and a First World War Stanley steam car.

The 100 or so guests wore war themed costumes and, after a champagne reception and buffet, danced to an orchestra performing Vera Lynn classics and military music.

But people living near the estate at Newtown Park in Portmore, Hants, complained that their picturesque village was turned into a battle zone.

Pamela Watson, 75, said the event brought back disturbing memories of her childhood during World War Two. “It was like the Blitz. The planes were swooping in so low and I was very frightened because they were incredibly noisy,” Miss Watson said.

“Loud explosions shook the windows in my kitchen. I had to stay indoors. I suppose they thought they were having a jolly good time but for us it was a nightmare.”

Althea Ayre, a widow in her 80s, said Mr Burnett’s party offended many war veterans in the area. “There were lots of people going about in camouflage and tanks – it was very frightening. I lived through the Second World War and I have painful memories.”

Harriet Draycott, 30, a mother of two, said: “It was a very nasty shock for the many elderly people who live in the area. One lady was very upset because she had a friend who was shot and killed on the ground by an enemy fighter.”

Rob Gray, the estate manager, dismissed the complaints and said the event raised £27,000 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. He said: “It was certainly very loud. But we’ve had more congratulations than we have complaints. The main thing was that we celebrated my employer’s birthday. Yes, we’re going to upset some people but we’ve done more good than harm.

“Some people who complained, claimed that it brought back bad memories of the war and I can sympathise with them to a certain extent. But my boss’s mother lived through the Blitz and she didn’t find it distressing.”

“We approached the police, coastguard, fire service, the hospital and the Civil Aviation Authority beforehand, we had a risk assessment, and everything went swimmingly.” New Forest district council said it had received two complaints and would investigate.

Men: Forgotten a Birthday? Don’t panic!

Posted in Personalised Cards at 10:14 am by kingletcards

According to societal stereotypes, men are seemingly genetically coded to forget important dates and times, including birthdays, appointments and anniversaries. Yes, society almost expects the male species to mess things up and cause our loved ones undue suffering due to our forgetfulness.

However there may be an excuse for you after all……….

Sure, your significant other may claim that your relationship started on the 5th of May 2006, but that’s only the view according to the Gregorian calendar, the internationally accepted civil calendar, which is so arbitrary that a day needs to be added into the year every four years to bring it in line with the astronomical year. Even worse, these days a leap second is added into our timetables some years to make sure that our timekeeping adheres to reality, and these leap seconds need to be added at an ever-increasing rate over longer periods of time.

Also, assuming that everyone in the world should adhere to a solar calendar when there are many cultures that use lunar calendars is downrightshort-sighted. Maybe we should be a bit more open minded………….No way!

I would not be happy if my husband forgot my birthday, so if you have forgotten your partner’s birthday, go straight to eCards at http://www.ecards.co.uk

Why choose ecards?

Posted in Personalised Cards, Top Tips tagged , at 3:32 pm by kingletcards

Wrong on so many levels!

Okay, so you are used to the world of traditional birthday cards posted through your letter box each year. At Christmas you are used to hanging your pictures on rather tacky strings on the walls of the house showing off how many people have sent you a Christmas card each year.

Now we are no Scrooge and love celebrating with a special birthday or Christmas wish, but have a few good reasons to why an ecard is the best bet over a traditional birthday or Christmas card.

  • You don’t offend anyone when putting up your birthday cards on the fireplace. If your girlfriends card is behind your mums or vice versa, be prepared for the silent treatment all night! However, with an ecard it’s in your inbox and you cannot offend anyone.
  • You are saving the world! Yes with an ecard you are not using paper products and the trees are kept in tact for another year. Give yourself a pat on the back!
  • You save some dollar! With websites like ecards.co.uk you can send a personalised ecard to your friends and loved ones for absolutely free! Unlike sites such as Moonpig and Hallmark who charge for their ecards, you can save the pennies for an extra present for your loved one or a chocolate bar for yourself!
  • You don’t have to find room for the cards after your birthday is over because throwing them away is almost a sin. With an ecard you can store them in your inbox and look back on them on those rainy days.
  • You get rid of the tacky strings around the house at Christmas because lets face it, in this modern age less is more when it comes to home furnishings.

No need to tighten your belt in January with ecards

Posted in Personalised Cards tagged , , at 4:08 pm by kingletcards

Most people are hardly loaded with cash at the moment as it is, even though there is good news that the dreaded ‘recession’ may finally be over, January is never a good month at the best of times, and with the current financial situations people are watching their money more than ever, cutting money is the main focus in peoples minds.

But this is no reason to cut on personalised greeting cards , no matter what the financial situation, everyone loves to recieve cards and greetings on special occasions, so don’t cut back in this area! Buying and posting cards can soon add up and become a expensive exercise, but you can now avoid this by sending personalised cards.

Rather than spending almost the same amount of money on cards as you probably would gifts, get up to date with modern technology and send out ecards to your friends and family for special occasions! You get to deliver the same message as you would by sending a normal card, yet you have many extra customization options and the card will be delivered as soon as you press ‘send’.

Ensure your personalised cards always arrive on time

Posted in Personalised Cards tagged , , at 12:11 pm by kingletcards

As frustrating annd upsetting as it may be when you have gifts arrive late, it can sometimes actually be quite a nice suprise, good things come to those who wait after all, and there is nothing better than receving a late gift when you think someone has forgotton all about you!

But, cards are different! If you forget to send a loved one a personalised birthday card, or if you give a gift but not a card on a anniversary, to be honest, you may of well not bothered with the gift!

A special personalised greeting card shows the receiver that thought has gone into the card and to some people this means a lot more than a expensive fancy present! However, if the card is received too late after the occasion date, it could be game over, getting a gift related card late after the occasion can be weird and confusing, as well as disappointing!

So save any disappointment and relying on clogged postal routes use ecards to send your personalised cards, instead send an ecard, which is fast, reliable and you can be sure will be received as soon as you click ‘send’.
